Andy Field
In those early days, Andy could regularly be found dancing in the
underground Jazz Funk & soul clubs of the late 70’s early 80’s
including Crackers, Horseshoe, Royalty and The Electric Ballroom.
Andy then went on to DJ at Flicks, Dartford (1986-1989 ), Champs
Deptford and also Fantasy Radio. The attraction of pirate radio was
outweighed by the prospect of large fines, confiscation of records, so
Andy decided to follow other avenues into broadcasting.
Andy worked at Jazz fm (London) for nearly 4 years, presenting several
shows and becoming studio manager. In 1998 , Andy then went on to join
BBC Television as Presentation Operator & Transmission controller, part
of a team responsible for the output on BBC 1, BBC 2, Choice and
Knowledge.
Andy's technical skills were developed pioneering the use of digital
broadcasting hardware and software in radio studios. In the early days
it was so expensive, now everyone can have fun with music.
1999 saw Andy at the launch of South East London station FLR 107.3,
where he presented nightly shows and weekend breakfast, playing Soul,
Dance, Motown and Jazz Funk.
An incredible highlight on the journey was a night with Robbie Vincent
on Victoria, London. Appearances with Ray Gaskins and JTQ on a Channel
Ferry to St Malo are etched into an extraordinary story.
In 2021 the NSPCC Soul Weekend was one of the very first out of event
restrictions organised by Andy and Tony D with live acts including
Atmosfear , The Brit Funk Association and Junior Giscombe. Three years
in the making it survived and happened against all odds.
After many years on FM, DAB, Sky and Online Radio the experience has
grown. Millennium/Time/RTM 103.8, Chocolate Radio, The Jazz Uk, Crackers
Radio, SoulBeat, JFSR, Joy Radio, The Soul Of Grenada/London, Solar
Radio, Starpoint and Soul Weekend Radio have felt the Soul International
Sound
With a few years being on hand to support Ian Starling with his radio
